Russell T. Davies’ response to them?: “If you can’t handle drama you shouldn’t watch it. Find something else. Go look at poetry. Poetry’s wonderful.” – and recommends they all go off and watch Supernatural instead.

Bless him. His excellent book/collection of emails The Writer’s Tale revealed a self-doubting writer coupled with bouts of intense confidence – like all writers – but it’s moments like this that just want to make me sit back and applaud.

As some people may have noticed, Torchwood: Children of Earth annoyed quite a few Torchwood fans, and some of them responded in less than flattering ways, especially towards one of the writers, the gentlemanly James Moran.

The best quote I saw was when someone Twittered James to ask that he walk into the production offices and shoot the executive producer. Fan-icide, you might say.

So I wrote a short 400-word article about it for Ariel, the BBC’s in-house magazine – reproduced here for your slight enjoyment…

Of course, extreme acts of fandom stupidity and inaneness are not restricted to Torchwood fans, oh no… read an earlier post and the priceless comment…

As a professional media creator and writer, this is going to come off as incredibly snooty, out of touch and sneering at people who are working on content for the sheer love of it. So be it.

GSG2DWS5 has a very short interview with the editor of Doctor Who magazine, Tom Spilsbury. It’s eight questions long, and since one of the questions is: “Do you have a girlfriend at the moment?” (prompted by Mr. Spilsbury, admittedly) we can ascertain it’s not going to win a Pullitzer Prize any time soon.

The highly amusing element is the legal disclaimer at the bottom:

“This interview has been officially endorsed by Tom Spilsbury himself. This is EXCLUSIVE to GSG2DWS5 and we reserve all rights on this interview.
