A lot can happen in a week...

Last week – Thursday 20 January – [livejournal.com profile] bijziend was induced.

SIXTY SIX hours of labour later, Alexander Joseph Ming Hin Wong was brought into the world in a very messy manner on Sunday morning, weighing 8lbs 1oz. I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe…

We were finally allowed to bring Alexander home on Wednesday afternoon, after three nights of [livejournal.com profile] bijziend and Alexander being stuck in a noisy ward full of screaming babies, Alexander included.

Thus Wednesday night was the first night of hell for both of us, with a screaming baby that could only be placated by a combination of feeds, bumps, crooning Lady GaGa lullabies and finally him sleeping in my arms while I was propped up on the sofa and could take a nap myself. Tips for getting babies to sleep at night are highly appreciated!

And that’s already taken up one week of paternity leave – just two more to go. :(

Hyperham and Alexander

No tips, I'm afraid, but congratulations!

Yep, that's pretty much how you get babies to sleep. You do every combination of tactics you can think of till something works.

Congratulations and best of luck!

Seriously, if you and Shalene need anything or she wants some company once you've gone back to work I'm happy to drop by. Believe it or not I do quite like babies and know what I'm doing with them!

Congratulations.
As to sleep things are different in different phases, sometimes things are better and sometimes worse. You also get used to it.

Congrats again! I'd love to be on your babyfilter, as I decide whether or not to create a mixed-breed spawn myself. :o

[identity profile] alicemeichi.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
lol! I vowed not to even think about getting pregnant until after I'm 30.. so until then, I'm just doing recon. :o

[identity profile] sexysmeagol.livejournal.com 2011-01-27 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratumalations!

He is really beautiful! And so often you have to lie because no matter how cute the kid ends up being, they start off looking terrifying where they're all new born. But Alex is actually a cutie from the start!! Nice work.

Can I be on the baby filter pleeeeease? I am still on LJ. New years resolution is to actually use the thing a bit more.

Congratulations, you guys!!!!

Yes, put me on the special filter.

As for seeing things I can't imagine... after three kids, all fully conscious the entire time, I'm pretty sure I have...

Oh yes, I want in on the babyfilter.

For getting baby to sleep a night, a bat? Not helpful? OK. No.

All for baby filter!

*baby is darling, congrats to you both :)
*yes on the babyfilter
*baby to sleep: well, everyone has their own way of doing things. if you don't have it already, get "the baby book" by dr. sears. it's amazing. i have also heard good things about the book "the no-cry sleep solution."

for us personally, the ONLY way dragon would sleep at night (or at all, at any time, ever) was for us to co-sleep. he needed to be able to nurse all night, or wake up, nurse, and go back to sleep. we started with a side-car sleeper, but eventually he just moved into the bed with us. i realize it's not for everyone, but i will tell you, he slept through the night and i got more rest than any of the other parents i knew. we transitioned him to his own bed when he got older and then eventually to his own room, so don't believe the myth that you will never get them to sleep on their own. babies needs are pretty simple: clean diaper, warmth, fed, burped, held and held and held and held. :)

Congratulations on your gorgeous new baby! Please add me to the babyfilter. I hope the sleeping/not sleeping settles into a manageable routine soon.
