In a slight panic ages ago, I'd set my LJ to set all new entries to a minimum security of friends.

As a result, LJ doesn't seem to let me cross-post my posts to any other website. The option is listed at the bottom of the screen, but the boxes are all greyed-out.

Even when I later change the status of, say, this post, to public, it still doesn't present me with the option.

Just in case ya wanted to know...

snugglebitch has just posted about seeing an offensive advert against gay marriage on her LJ, and commenting that she's glad she switched to Dreamwidth.

While the advert is obviously offensive, surely any move to try and stop displaying the advert - which says that gay marriage activists are "silencing" the opposition to gay marriage, typical right-wing hysterical rhetoric - just plays right into their hands, and gives them more ammunition?

Mind you, the advert seems to be pointless. Either you believe gay people are equal and should be accorded the same rights as straight people (ie marriage, the army and all that) -- or you think gay people are not equal. A banner advert isn't going to change your mind one way or the other. It's not like they're trying to sell you a toaster...

For the record (since I'm already noticing some unfriending), I'm all for gay marriage and equality. Sheesh. As if that wasn't obvious already?

Apparently, according to rhodri (who writes for the Independent, who are in partnership with LJ UK), the LJ redundancies are as a result of the company moving operations from Los Angeles to Moscow. Which, given that LJ is now Russian-owned makes sense.

Also, according to this LJ post, the numbers aren't quite so huge. "13 let go, 17 kept in total, and 12 let go and 12 kept in SF"

Also, apparently some of the LJ developers had been working on Dreamwidth, a LiveJournal 2.0 - I imagine development on this will now kick up a notch...
