Or until they fudge it so you can "pre-download" maps of an area so you don't need the signal.
I can get Nokia Maps for my mobile which does that, but I'm happy using Google Maps in the UK. If I go abroad, it'd be cheaper to switch to Nokia Maps and download the relevant data for [wherever] otherwise I'll get ridiculous roaming fees.
