The importance of kettles...

I'm not going to mention this on the flame-war bait that became brits_americans, but I'd just like to point out that kettles are *so* important to the British psyche, they're being used to try and recruit social workers in the UK.

Don't worry, if you and Shovethisjob ever come to visit our house, we have an electric kettle, a stovetop kettle and a cabinet full of tea.

We don't own a coffee maker. We never have and we never will. I suppose i'd be able to find a 1920's percolator FOR coffee in the basement, but take our kettles and we'll beat the snot out of ya.

I just realized, by staring at it, that I actually do own an electric kettle. It lives on my desk at work, and is used for making hot chocolate and killing maggots, though not at the same time.

My kettle sits on my stove. It is the same style my grandmothers had. (and great grandmothers) I have a high end teamaker. I also have Tea tins sitting on my baker's rack.

I just don't see the need for an electric kettle.

For the record, this American just used an electric kettle to boil water for her tea. There. Ha.

I also made coffee this morning, but used a percolator, for what that's worth.
