It comes from the assumption that the sexuality of women is only there to serve the needs of heterosexual men. So if 2 women are getting it on, then obviously it's for the wanking benefit of straight men who are watching them, or who want to do a threesome.
The idea that a lesbian couple might not give a rat's ass about straight men's wanking requirements doesn't occur to people.
I make a point of mentioning this whenever any bloke at work makes a suggestive comment about gay women. Then I get them to imagine Roseanne Barr and Rosie O'Donnell shagging.
