I happen to think that forcing Internet companies to keep track of every Internet service, website etc. that people have been using, so that the police can interrogate said database on request is a bad idea, and not really going to work. Discuss ...

Well, already I know some of my school friends on Facebook take the view of "TRACK EVERYTHING! ANYTHING TO STOP THE PAEDOS!"

But don't they know that PAEDOS AND TERRORISTS is the standard government response to anyone who questions anything they know is unjustified? HOW do they think that this will stop paedos?

They're not that politically aware/active. They just go on the basic presumption that if the government/police know everything, then surely that'll help to STOP THE PAEDOS. And that's a hard argument to argue against.

Besides, from my personal experience, people don't change their minds just because the facts contradict their beliefs.

There's a reason why I don't usually go into politics. Bah.

Yeah, scientific research shows that if the facts contradict most people's beliefs, their beliefs actually get more entrenched. I wish they taught critical thinking from an early age in schools. But they never will because then people would question their teachers, and schools wouldn't be little conformity factories.
