Today, as 260 million people (mostly Americans) sit down with their families eating turkey in the full knowledge they'll probably have to do it again in a months time for Christmas, I'm thankful I'm not one of them!

The whole hullabaloo over Christmas is bad enough, without having the dress rehersal that is Thanksgiving as well. Or have I got it completely confused and wrong ?!

A lot of families travel for Thanksgiving that don't for Christmas, and vice versa. Thanksgiving is all about the meal, without presents and so forth.

And a lot of people don't eat turkey at Christmas in the States because of Thanksgiving turkey! We usually had ham instead.

I think it would be quite nice to have turkey for Thanksgiving because that would take away the imperative to have it at Xmas. I always faff around thinking goose might be nice, but end up having turkey for tradition's sake.

I'm quite lucky in that T'Giving is, indeed, a day for turkey-themed gluttony, but my family is very close, and we like to keep things relatively low-key - no get-togethers of 25 people for us!

And then, for Xmas, my dad's usually in Europe, so I take over his place and throw a day-long party for friends without family to visit and/or pals wanting to get away from said family, with pot-luck catering and lashings of booze. Two very different holidays, both fab.

Unfortunately, dad's not going to Europe this year, so I'm not quite sure when/where I'll be doing the party, but I'm not giving it up, dammit! ;)

Thank you!

Our day to observe Religious Intolerance and Racial Discrimination is upon us.

What a great excuse for turkey and pie!

:)

See, I blame you guys. You let the Puritans leave in the first place. Now we're STUCK with them!

Thanksgiving is the only holiday in my family where we have a huge tradition American meal. Including a baked ham.

Christmas we usually have curry duck and/or goat. Including a baked ham. Sometimes two.

But don't tell the Ayatollah, we may get our Muslim status revoked. :D
