The bit about the Mayan calendar is bullshit - it's a cyclical calendar, so when they ran out of dates, they restarted it. It happened once in their recorded history (ie, one full cycle of the entire calendar) and the world didn't end then, so there's no reason to think that it will end in 2012 either.

That statement being inaccurate (as well as several bits of information he gives within the statement leading up to it - it does NOT predict the bloody future, it just predicts solar eclipses, etc. because they tracked planetary movements. It's like saying modern day astronomers can predict the future because, duh, they've studied planetary movements and can predict eclipses) I would be hard-pressed to believe any of the statements he makes. The Mayans were incredibly advanced when it came to mathematics but then, they also believed that the earth demanded bloodletting from Mayan kings and queens to stay fertile. They weren't prescient, just smart.

I'm assuming you're not seriously believing it but I know there are people who do freak out about the 12/21/2012 Mayan calendar thing, so I just wanted to say how dumb the panic is ;p
