BBC Films co-produces a film about the life of Charles Darwin. Starring Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connolly, it looks at how Darwin’s theory on the Origin of Species impacts on his personal life, and his relationship with his religious wife.

So, a scientist battling between religion and evolution. What’s so bad about that?

Well, the film can’t be released in the United States because it can’t find a distributor. Even though it’s found one everywhere else.

I’m fairly sure there’s a Biblical quote somewhere about looking at other viewpoints and having an open mind…

Mirrored from almost witty.

About the same chance as you would have of surviving diving into the heart of a sun in a huge, black space ship running on an automted sequence called - cheerily enough - "sun dive". ;p

I can just imagine Eris throwing her hands up in horror and yelling at America, "Think for yourselves, dammit!" ;p

About two to the power of two-hundred-and-sixty-seven-thousand, seven-hundred-and-nine to one against.

Gosh. I find this really really hard to comprehend. Call me naive (OK, you already know how ditzy I am!) but I really didn't know that America was *that* religious.

It isn't. look at their sources.

America isn't that religious per se, it's just that the Religious Right Reich are a very powerly, very rediculously well-funded lobbying block that can exert a vast amount of influence when they want to, because God is on their side and they can do whatever the fuck they like. ><

"according to a Gallup poll conducted in February, only 39 per cent of Americans believe in the theory of evolution"

That poll cannot be correct. SERIOUSLY.

I won't rant about this new breed of pie-eyed christian.. bu they aren't dealing with a full deck.

The reason I say that is because it is taught and accepted in the majority of the country. I have to ask where and who they polled. If they used the base at the Christian movie site they mentioned - then they will get skewed results. Heavily skewed.

That said I'd like to see that film. It also saddens me that people use this theory to divide. That was not its purpose, and so many have used it thus for so long. Mostly because (in my opinion) they do not understand or comprehend what they are encountering.

Still there are none so blind as those who will not see.

that's criminal. All Jennifer Connelly movies should be released in the US so I can see them.

hm. not surprised. you throw a rock around here and it's almost sure to land in the yard of a church.
there's a section of highway i pass nearly every day here that is NOTHING but church after church after church. you'd think the crime rate would be near non-existent, you know, because church folk are just SO moral.
i better stop. religion is a very sore subject with me.

....by the way, i think they'll find a distributor soon enough. if enough people talk about it.

To quote the article:

'dismissing evolution as "a silly theory with a serious lack of evidence to support it despite over a century of trying".'

Unlike Christianity which is a silly theory with a serious lack of evidence to support it despite over *two millenia* of trying.

I think Darwin's followers have a few more years to go before they looks as ridiculous as the herded god-botherers.
