Chinese Christmas dinner

Originally uploaded by almost witty

While you all prepare to tuck into your cliched turkey & cranberry Christmas dinner and bemoan that it’s the same meal every year, bear in mind that I wish, that just for one tiny year, that I could have a turkey & cranberry dinner with all the trimmings. Especially roast potatoes!

Not because it’s particularly tasty – any meat that dry should belong in the Sahara, surely? – but because when my parents do Christmas dinner, it’s … rather different. Fantastically tasty, and as with all home-cooked food it’s heartwarming and fantastic, but for once, I’d like to try a turkey’n'cranberry dinner that wasn’t mass-cooked in a canteen or microwaved in a local pub.

They’ll probably cook the same sort of thing this year, but I really must ask how they produce all that food…

My friend Molly says that "turkey is a crap version of chicken"

Which it is, though I still like it.

I love Chinese food though. How about we swap families for this year? You'll totally hate mine. XD

It's amazing what you can do gastronomically with a fragmentation grenade, isn't it? :)

I think real Chinese food sounds great for Christmas dinner!

My co-workers and I are going out for Chinese food tonight on our break. Well, it won't be the real thing that you're having, but Chinese American. *sigh* Someday I would like to have the real thing.

Turkey is Thanksgiving. Christmas is Ham, Duck, Venison, etc.. and none of those meals is dry and etc.. (but the cranberries are delish)

That meal looks good too. what was it? Do find out the recipies. =)

I always make a duck. This is a silly tradition that began after seeing the movie "A Christmas Story" as a kid, and enjoying the part where they have to go to the Chinese restaurant and have duck. Granted, I do not season it Chinese-style, but it is a tradition for me at this point. (I only wish I could get one with the head still on, like in the movie. I would just love to freak my guests out with it! Lol)
