Wow. Just Wow. Definitely a programme for the fans – as, in many ways, it ought to be. Although even for the fans, the writing was marvellous. It fooled me, feigning a left hook then throwing a right punch. And the way that Matt Smith turned out to be a bad dream…

Fortunately, I think there’s just enough information for the non-fans to get it, although perhaps not the vast epic scale of it.

Jumbled spoilery thoughts after the break….

Mickey and Martha, yeah, made no sense.

The Time Lords were a total disappointment for me. Russell T always pushes the Big Reset Button too eagerly, setting up a threat then knocking it down in a single episode/two-parter. (Writers! When you have a big, popular franchise, do NOT be afraid to have plot develop over time! Please! 'Monster of the Week' plots were old before the days of Buffy!)

What was that "Diary of Impossible Things" thing? Something to do with a 1920s nurse? I think I missed the whole of whatever that was.

The thing with the regeneration, as I've said on Twitter, was that it was basically this (except it didn't end in bloody vomit and diarrhoea, which was almost disappointing in a way).

I had a cynical moment when Ten's face healed so his last moments (which turned out to be rather long, numerous last moments) could all take place while he had flawless skin.

I wonder if Moffatt wrote 11's opening dialogue. I hope so, because after all you'd want to have the reins when it came to your new character's all-important first lines, but it did feel pretty much the same as the Russell T Davies Doctor. "Geronimo" would be an absolutely awful catchphrase!

I don't know, I'm just honestly relieved there's a new writer at the helm. Please no more silly orchestra-accompanied Doctor-worship, and let's have some scares and thoughtful moments, and DIALOGUE DIALOGUE DIALOGUE, not people shouting past each other.

(AND MOAR K-9)

I don't know any honourable m'ladies, but I really will have to watch Midnight sometime - I think it's one I missed, from having read trails at least. Actually I must have missed more Martha episodes than I thought, because that Family of Blood thing doesn't look familiar either. That explains it...

Ooh! And I forgot to mention, it needs more puns. Definitely more puns. Puns puns puns.
